needs more bleeding vaginas

So, Pitchfork gave Zaireeka a 0/10. This struck me as odd, mainly because it's by the Flaming Lips. See the juxtaposition? But I'm not going to dwell on Pitchfork's abortion of a review. I like to think I'm better than that. The "hook" of Zaireeka is that it comes with four CDs, with eight tracks on each, every disc having an alteration of each song. With a physical copy, you could mix and match discs to see what variation suited you. When all four CDs are played in harmony, weird shit goes down. "Weird shit" as in "beauty". Everything is so fantastically surreal in this album; it's kind of like the disorientation experienced when you get up too quick and blood rushes from your head. Whether it's the means of transportation in the year 2025 or bleeding vaginas, Zaireeka will always keep you engaged with its lyrical content. Distorted guitars, strong drums, and high frequencies will have you a) Brain-washed and b) Coming back for more.

you snooki!

Protip: Don't look up "You Slut!" on Google Images without safesearch on. Don't type it in on MediaFire either; one of the results that pop up is "Post-Abortion Slut Fuck", a phrase that, unfortunately, has been engraved in my mind. And I thought I masturbated to some weird shit...

ANYWAYS, You Slut! is a math-rock band hailing from the land of Queen Elizabeth (whom, incidentally, is also a slut.) They debuted in 2006 with a six song EP, but their first LP, Critical Meat, was released in 2008. Interestingly, Critical Meat was released in Japan in 2007, and 2008 in the UK. So what about the album itself? Pretty god-damn impressive. The opening track has some of the greatest cowbell playing this side of Electioneering has seen. The beats are choppy, and snares are applied sparingly (yet effectively). What kind of guitar-wizardry do all eight tracks use? I don't know, but I'm afraid to question it. To quote fellow wigger and douchebag Shaggy 2 Dope: "This shit'll blow your motherfuckin' mind!!!"

You see right through meee; I see right through youuuu

Hot off the heels of The Moon and Antarctica, Modest Mouse had to release something that would seem at least decent compared to it. Interestingly enough, they decided to release the album that was originally going to be their debut - Sad Sappy Sucker. Originally set for a 1994 release, SSS was delayed for reasons my sources (i.e., Wikipedia) don't know. But, in my humble opinion, it would have been one of the best fucking debuts ever. It is, for the most part, consistently ace; and there's 24 tacks. Only The Lonesome Crowded West could top this behemoth.

SWEET'N'SOUR JESUS FUCK

Holy spicy fuck-whistles. This bad-boy leaked a few hours ago, and it's giving me a metaphorical boner. You want to know what it's like? It's like dropping acid in a McDonald's ball pit full of sex. It's really good.

MGMT is, at face value, a radio-friendly single maker. Or should have been a radio-friendly single maker. MGMT never really wanted to get popular, they just happened to release three singles that got a fuckton of airtime. Andrew VanWyngarden stated that Congratulations won't have any "Time to Pretends" or "Electric Feels". This proves to be bittersweet, seeing how Time to Pretend fucking rocked. But the inconsistencies of OS were all too noticeable. The mature songs like Weekend Wars and The Youth were scattered between the big three singles: The aforementioned Electric Feel and Time to Pretend as well as Kids. Congratulations fixes these problems though. You certainly won't find anything that would make it big on the radio. Every track shows the experimental/psychedelic tone MGMT was aiming for. This album feels like you're in one of those spinning rides at Disney World. You're jerked from side to side as each song splits into three, only to be neatly wrapped up by the end.
UPDATE: /mu/ has spoken, they fucking loathe it. 2deep4them

White Butterfly Ordinary Thundercloud

Holy shit, what?
This album is awesome. I picked it up from the greatest fucking sharethread ever (mark September 6th on your calender, it's the second-coming of this God).

So, Start A People. It's by Black Moth Super Rainbow. It's trippin' balls. Think of it as a combination of Beck's Hell Yes EP, Bomberman 64, EarthBound, Kid A, and Animal Crossing. It's hard to remember it track by track. The whole album is like one epic, orgasmic song.

Teen-Angst Festival '10

This is another album I posted but didn't talk about.
Let's get this straight: Mellow Gold is only slightly inferior to Odelay. Slightly.
And Odelay is fucking perfect, so that's saying something.
ANYWAYS, this is the last Beck album that has folksy roots (I assume Mutations revived his "folksy roots", but whatever.) Most of these songs are about shitty jobs Beck had before he got signed to a record label (Leaf-blowing, washing dishes in a farmhouse, etc.) And, of course, there's his breakthrough hit Loser, which is a good starting point if you want to get into Beck. One of the best parts of this album is the lyrics. They range from meaningful (Whiskeyclone, Blackhole) to total bullshit (Loser, Beercan, Fuckin' With My Head), which keeps you guessing what they mean. Fight the powa, Beck
Best Tracks: All of them except Sweet Sunshine and Analogue Odyssey (but that's a hidden track)

Did I already post this before? I might have. Damn, I really need to add a search bar.

Anyways, I know I've taken my fair share of jabs at Kurt Cobain, but that doesn't stop Nirvana from being good. In Utero is self-analytical, witty and angsty at the same time. It shows a mature Nirvana (Pennroyal Tea, All Apologies) as well as a batshit insane Nirvana (Very Ape, tourette's)

Best Tracks: Serve the Servants, Pennyroyal Tea, All Apologies, Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on Seattle

The week before finals

Lucky me. I get to write an essay describing the themes of all of the myths we've been reading in class using To Kill a Mockingbird and Cleopatra VII as touchstones.

I've been listening to more Beck than usual. Very very good shit. I'm working on uploading all of his stuff. One day of progress:

Look at this album cover. LOOK AT IT. The cover alone is enough to persuade you to download this. Unless you get the censored version. The Butthole Surfers (or B***H***Surfers if you download the censored version) have been around for nearly 30 years, and their latest performance in Austin, Texas on Halloween maybe their last (sniffsniffsob). They were a bunch of rascals that took LSD and made psychedelic rock. They also starred in a short film that featured a little kid flipping his dad off, a car-fucking hillbilly, and cannibalism. ElectricLarryLand is their seventh album and with (GASP) 500,000 copies sold it's the only RIAA certified album, mainly due to the single "Pepper", which topped the Billboard Top 40 chart. FUCKING SELLOUTS KUYBUHWEBCWCEWCW OMG. But yeah, this is psychedelic rock at its finest. If you aren't sure about this then just listen to Pepper and Jingle of a Dog's Collar on YouTube.

Here's their short film. WHAT THE HELL

A couple of favorites to break in the blog

Okay, this is kind of a guilty pleasure but I just love this album.

Tragically overlooked. I guess the best way to describe this is like indie (cringe) space pop.

Experimental-folk. The first playthrough it's sort of drab but when you give it another listen you'll laugh at the absurdity of it.

Synth-pop of the so-sweet-it's-depressing variety. The voice is just amazing.
