'twas a dinosaur act

Post-rock, overall, is pretty okay, I guess. Some people can sit in their own filth and misery while listening to dreamy whispers over ominous static, others can't. I fall into the latter. The fuel to depressing music, in my opinion, needs a little more substance. That's why I can sit in my own filth and misery to Red House Painters much better than, say, Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Despite my little schpiel on post-rock, I rediscovered Things We Lost in the Fire by Low recently, and I really enjoy it. I'm a sucker for female and male vocals combined, so maybe that's what's doing the trick. I still can't see the appeal of Justin Bieber, though.

BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURN

It's funny because he's a man-lady. Haha. Anyways, Low's whispery-soft female delivery with the solid-yet-light tone of the male's really hooks me in, along with the chimes and acoustic guitar. It's so soothing that they can ask "What is a whore?" (in the aptly-named track 'Whore') and make it sound gospelesque. The lack of synth is also very refreshing from what I've been listening to lately. I think minimalism that can still express heavy anger or sadness is miles more advanced than "LOL WE ADD SYNTH AND SING ABOUT MY HEART EXCEPT IT'S A TICKING CLOCK WAITING 4 U." 'Like a Forest' portrays the former experience. Low really does a good job of crafting a unique experience that feels uneasy yet melancholic.

DON'T BE A KNUCKLE-SANDWICH

I AM AMERICA

Who is Stephen Colbert?
Besides a forgettable avatarfag (I fucking hated that guy), he's the coolest person. Ever.
He's always pissing people off with his biting satire on the TV show The Colbert Report. If you live outside of the U.S. and wonder what he's mocking, just watch this. Well, at least O'Reilly is a good sport about it. I'll give him that.
But this isn't about O'Reilly, this is about THE Colbert. His 2007 book I am America (And So Can You!) is the greatest thing known to man. Here's the .pdf file of the book, but once you finish reading the .pdf, consider getting the audiobook. It's narrated by Colbert himself, and it plays out like a normal episode of the Colbert Report. All of the expected topics are covered: Sex, drugs, homosexuals, religion, etc., etc. I would give you a sample of his best quotes, but fucking BlogSpot (I am never going to call it Blogger) doesn't want me to copy-paste. Swine.
DON'T BE A KNUCKLE-SANDWICH. BUY THIS BOOK.
Yes, I have been abusing the font sizes lately. Fuck you.

feel like a piece of shit

I feel like a piece of shit. This blanket just came out of the dryer, but the fresh smell is giving me a headache. My head feels stuffy, I'm depressed, and my throat feels swollen. I need a nap. But I haven't posted in a while and Valentine's day (bullshit angst day) is around the corner, so I'll delay my sleep for you, the royal reader. 'Cause I'm soooooo nice. Sorry, did you say something? I can't hear you over the sound of me fapping.

So yeah, The Antlers. Apparently Pitchfork feels that by giving albums by aspiring young artists a good review, they're kickstarting their career. It has an opposite effect on me, to be honest. It's always the same story: Pitchfork gives [band]'s debut/"breakthrough" album an 8, [band] gets a shitload of scrobbles for two weeks, then the hipster backlash kicks in. It happened with The XX, Merriweather Post Pavillion, and, yes, Hospice. I guess I'm not hip for know about them before Pitchfork 8.5'd them, but isn't being hip arriving late for old trends? I don't know, and I don't care. All I know is that Hospice is fucking haunting. I had it on in the background while I was reading an article about the Virtual Boy (ONM: a necesarry evil) when the track Bear came on, and I just had to stop. It's that good. While the vocals are pure, the static and the horns
in the background create a contrasting atmosphere. And then the lyrics. Oh Jesus, the lyrics.

"And all the while I'll know we're fucked/And not getting unfucked soon."

"Sylvia, get your head out of the covers/Let me take your temperature,
you can throw the thermometer right back at me/if that's what you want to do, okay?"

Just mouthing them makes me feel uneasy. If you really need music that makes you think, this is it. If you need to cry or release some demons, this is it. Bring a noose.

Have you heard these guys yet? If not then why the hell not? Great post-rock album with hard rock influences, brilliant use of synth and samples. Best tracks: Sing The Word Hope In Four-Part Harmony, This Time Last Year, Co-Conspirators
