Sorrryyy guys

So La Dispute are the first band for quite a while that I've really felt I just have to share, so I'm going to link you to our good friends at HMHYHT? because they get the credit for introducing me to this amazing band and I'd feel guilty about pretending that I found them on my own.
HMHYT? Link's there (just thought I'd tell you incase youre too stupid to figure it out ;D)

p.s. jonathan is gay
That's a weird way of spelling bisexual.
Well this colouring shit is fucking gay if you ask me.
How the hell do I get a normal colour, not in the mood for this shit -_-
Fine, I stay red, you stay blue.
I want normal fucking colour god fucking damnit.

BWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM

The Angelic Process - Weighing Souls With Sand
Download

After I recently fell in love with 'entry-level' drone bands Sunn O))) and Earth (BWOOM SOUNDS LIKE MY FRIDGE INORITE) I decided to move onto less 'bwoom' styled drone and I got recommended this, it's amazing shoegaze influenced drone and alot different to what I expected.

Even if you're not into drone (probably 2deep4u) I really recommend this, because you'll see it more as a shoegaze record with drone influences and the vocals are insanely good, and I mean REALLY good. The Angelic Process likes to make everything come in at once and it just sounds amazing.

p.s. if any drone fans are reading this and thinking 'WTF is this guy on about?' then I apologise, I'm new to the genre :3c

Every opressed teenager with a decent taste in music HAS to listen to this

Pinkerton is always relevant to my life, and I swear it gets better every time I hear it. Before Rivers Cuomo's fatal 1998 plane crash, he was the fucking king of angst, even if critics initially hated Pinkerton.
Essentially this album is about Rivers Cuomo's Asian fetish and his inability to settle down with someone (as illustrated in Tired of Sex). Whether Rivers knows this or not, Pinkerton was highly influential towards the late 90s emo sound. If it weren't for this album I probably wouldn't be typing this right now.
Best Tracks: Everything but Butterfly, seriously, it's all so heavy and then it abruptly ends with an acoustic song. Not the best transition. Why am I typing this?

EXPLOSIONS AND SHIT

"Chiptune? F-f-f-f-fuuuuck your shit"
That might be what you're thinking. Probably not, but maybe. Designing a Nervous Breakdown is the debut album of The Anniversary, Kansas' pride and joy*. Actually, it never really got that big, but that doesn't detract from the awesomeness of this album. It came out in 2000, but it never made any "best of the naughts" lists, which is a real shame. Their style is like the middle-road between Jimmy Eat World and the Get Up Kids, with some synth here, some synth there, and female back-up vocals.
Best Tracks: The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, The D in Detroit, Perfectly, Without Panasos
*Interestingly enough, they were just a circle of bros who never really got serious until highschool friend Matthew Pryor (of The Getup Kids, no less) suggested they make an album. It's all about connections, man.

Get rude and shit!

Bomb The Music Industry! - Scrambles
Download

I can't really say that I'm familiar with ska (assuming this is ska, I wouldn't really know as I'm not familiar with it, dur) but this album is good ska.

I need some sleep.

p.s. I'll probably describe this album more when I wake up

i think ur a toxic event

You know that feeling your hand gets when you dip it in ice-water for a long time? Like, it sort of makes your skin feel like it's too tight for your fingers? That's what my thumb feels like right now, but with blisters. Thanks Nintendo 64. Thanks.

Now, here's something I haven't thought about in a while. The Airborne Toxic Event is a Los Angeles band that could have been the "next big thing" (that's what my brother thinks, anyway.) Maybe so, but the 1.6 rating Pitchfork gave their debut self-titled album says otherwise. Well, they can suck it. Sure, not all of the tracks are as deep as, say, Hospice, but sometimes you don't want to ponder the emotions of the boyfriend of a cancer-stricken girl, or Rivers Cuomo's Asian fetish. Does This Mean You're Moving On? is a two-minute, upbeat song about some bitch who ignores her boyfriend, and all the while he finds proof that she's cheating. Like I said before, it's not Neutral Milk Hotel or whatever, but it's worth a listen.
Best Tracks:
Wishing Well, Does This Mean You're Moving On?, Papillon, Missy

SPONGEBOB REACTION IMAGE ARCHIVE FUCK YESSSSS

This is a music blog, reaction image archives do not belong. But it's Spongebob so I'll let it pass.

This post is almost as big as your mother! Dohoho

Even though I believe in quality over quantity I feel bad for not posting all that often lately, and then when I do it's some 2deep4u shit, so I've decided to post some of my recent favourites in emo/screamo. BTW some of these might have been posted before, like I said they're just my recent favourites. I apologise for the short descriptions.

Grown Ups - Songs
Download

Sounds like an under-produced Snowing; I'm not sure if that sounds like a compliment or not but it's meant to be one, also reminds me of Street Smart Cyclist at times.

p.s. I think this is the only non-.mp4 version on Mediafire right now, it's V2.

Midwest Pen Pals - Leaving Songs EP
Download

I've been listening to these guys for quite some time now, should've posted them earlier. Leaving Songs EP is all they released, they broke up and formed other bands (my favourite of which being Merchant Ships). They play some rather noodley mathy emo rock, with a hint of screamo at times; also DEAR WORLD

Saetia - A Retrospective
Download

I apologise to all the screamo buffs who heard this years ago, but I'm not all that big on the genre; not because I don't like it but because I never knew where to begin, but when I found Saetia my mind was blown, amazing screamo band and definately worth your time if new to the genre, or if you're familiar with the genre and never heard them.

Boy Problems - Summer Tour demo
Download

Another screamo band that is no longer together, why do all good bands break up without even releasing a full length? Odds are you have heard atleast one of the band members play before, look how much they get around!

danny plays bass/sings, alan plays guitar, and jr plays drums in Boys And Sex.
matt plays guitar in Storm the Bastille.
alan plays guitar, jr plays drums, jon weed sings in cassilis.
jr plays drums in Snowing.
danny sang in Make Me.
kevin sang, matt played bass in Harrison Bergeron.

kevin played guitar in Street Smart Cyclist.
jon weed played guitar in The Lady is not for Burning.
bernie plays guitar in book of flags

Palmkite - Palmkite Demo
Download

My favourite band at the moment, everything about this demo is perfect. If I had to recommend one band from this post it would be these, they're like a second Kinsella, amazing emo that meets American Football and Oh My God Elephant!/Rainbow Tornado midway. I'm really looking forward to a full length (if there is one).

Snowing - Fuck Your Emotional Bullshit
Download

I want to go to bed so here's an amazing review a friend wrote on them:
"So have some music by a band called Snowing. It's pretty much the best the current Emo scene has to offer.
My writing genius knows no bounds"

Been meaning to post this for awhile

Charles Spearin - The Happiness Project
Download

What is happiness? For me it's that perfect moment, when you just stop what you're doing and think 'I really hope this day doesn't end'; that moment when you're just enjoying life, without a care in the world; and that moment when you realise you've formed a special friendship with someone, a broship shall we call it.

In this concept album Charles Spearin ingeniusly explores the idea of happiness, just what is it? Does everyone have the same interpretation of happiness? Why do we feel happiness? All these questions are answered by Charles neighbours, he sits them down and just talks about being happy, and what makes them happy. He brilliantly transforms the spoken word into music, finding each note in the speakers voice and playing along, it's amazing to hear the human voice used in such a way. It's wierd how these seemingly everyday conversations make you think, at one point in Vittoria's song Charles loops her saying "It's like, it's like erm, and it's like erm just like", it seems like Charles way of saying that happiness is undefinable, the way that this young girl is lost for words really shows that happiness is an undescribable emotion. This is an album with just one purpose; to make you think.

Valiumtines

What's a lonely virgin to do on a day packed with new-wave emo kids masturbating over their shitty poems? Why, make a mix-tape for other lonely virgins, of course.

Introducing the second funniest pun ever*: Valiumtines. Pump your stomach full of prescription pills while She pumps away at His schlong. I assume you get my point.

I don't want to tell you the tracks yet because that will ruin the gimmick surprise.

*The first being "What did Zelda say to Link when he couldn't open the door? 'Triforce.'"

Also mine is at: http://www.mediafire.com/?k2i0j0q3j22

Also, your mom is a skank

Ask anybody (i.e., Adam) who their favorite Nintendo 64 game is and 7 1/2 times out of 10 they'll say "Ocarina of Time, I guess." But let's make this deeper. Let's suppose you asked them to name one Nintendo 64 game in 5 seconds. Would the majority still say Ocarina of Time? Would the number of people who said Ocarina of Time increase? Stay the same? Decrease? The former question pits quality against, well, nothing else. The latter, however, pits quality against personal memories playing the N64. Would they still say Ocarina of Time, or would they choose a game with even greater nostalgic value? Would I say Majora's Mask or Blast Corps or Harvest Moon 64? Has Ocarina of Time attached itself to our memories of the N64, like some neutral parasite? The question I'm trying to pose, I guess, is whether or not the amount of people who support a certain theory (or anything else) makes it anymore credible. If 100% of people believed Ocarina of Time was perfect, would that make it a fact? Laws are described as something observed in nature that never changes. So what if, by some act of God, everyone has the same opinion on something? Would that make it a fact/law?

Anyways, the original point of this post was to share the Majora's Mask OST, but I got a bit sidetracked with my psuedo-intellectual bullshit. My bad

Aloooooone

What happens if I edit this whilst you're writing it?

Fuck you, that's what.

My brother implied (actually, he straight-out fucking said) that the Alone albums were the equivalent of Rivers Cuomo masturbating on stage. "Just take 10 of the best songs, re-record with the other members of Weezer, and then release it as a compilation." After Beck, my bro is the coolest fucker ever, but I really have to disagree on his statement. There isn't really anything Weezer could do to get any shittier. Collaborating with 'Lil Wayne and the All American Rejects is like sub-zero; it's physically impossible to go any lower.

Well, maybe not.

It's not like Weezer decided to use auto-tune or work with brokeNCYDE. And despite what critics said, the Red Album was pretty good. I realize I'm analyzing Weezer instead of actually talking about Alone. But the point is, the principle is definitley masturbatory, but these are fucking Pinkerton-era B-sides and a few tracks from Songs From the Blackhole, a highly sought-after album that never saw the light of day. And dude, it sounds like Pinkerton. Fucking Pinkerton.

Best Tracks: Superfriend (once you get past the first cringe-worthy verse), Chess, Longtime Sunshine, I Was Made for You, Blastoff!/Who You Callin' Bitch?

Tuesday 9 February 2010

No time for love, Interpol ololololol

To my surprise, I haven't posted any Interpol yet. I guess I'm fixing that.
Interpol is the first "post-punk revival" band to be posted here. But you have to be hip about it. You got to call it P-pR. Fucking uncouth swine.
ANYWAYS, Turn on the Bright Lights is Interpol's debut album, released in 2002. The lyrics are often cryptic ("I wish I could eat the salt off of your gloss-shaded lips"), the bass is smooth as shit (think Sunny Day Real Estate's 'The Shark's Private Fuck', only spread out across the album) and the drums are fast and crisp. The whole album progresses smoothly, which is probably why it's so good for shagging (...I'd imagine, ;_;).
If you pass this up, you're shooting yourself in the foot.
Best Tracks: NYC, Obstacle 1, Stella Was a Diver and She Was Always Down, Roland, PDA

Koji Kondo - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Download

Probably going to be excluded from school soon, my parents are going of their nut and I have nothing to do with my life if I do, I think I'm getting to that stage of being a teenager where I realise it's not all fun and games. Oh teenage life, you're a cruel one. Anyways, nostalgia time to remind myself that my childhood isn't over yet.

Teen-Angst Festival '10

This is another album I posted but didn't talk about.
Let's get this straight: Mellow Gold is only slightly inferior to Odelay. Slightly.
And Odelay is fucking perfect, so that's saying something.
ANYWAYS, this is the last Beck album that has folksy roots (I assume Mutations revived his "folksy roots", but whatever.) Most of these songs are about shitty jobs Beck had before he got signed to a record label (Leaf-blowing, washing dishes in a farmhouse, etc.) And, of course, there's his breakthrough hit Loser, which is a good starting point if you want to get into Beck. One of the best parts of this album is the lyrics. They range from meaningful (Whiskeyclone, Blackhole) to total bullshit (Loser, Beercan, Fuckin' With My Head), which keeps you guessing what they mean. Fight the powa, Beck
Best Tracks: All of them except Sweet Sunshine and Analogue Odyssey (but that's a hidden track)

Did I already post this before? I might have. Damn, I really need to add a search bar.

Anyways, I know I've taken my fair share of jabs at Kurt Cobain, but that doesn't stop Nirvana from being good. In Utero is self-analytical, witty and angsty at the same time. It shows a mature Nirvana (Pennroyal Tea, All Apologies) as well as a batshit insane Nirvana (Very Ape, tourette's)

Best Tracks: Serve the Servants, Pennyroyal Tea, All Apologies, Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on Seattle

Sunday 7 February 2010

Haven't posted in ages cause I'm lazy.

The Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower
Dissertation, Honey download
Love in the Fascist Brothel download

I'm not the greatest with genres so I don't really know how to explain these guys, last.fm says post-hardcore and punk, and wikipedia says post-punk, noise rock and punk-jazz (lol wikipedia and last.fm references how ameteur). They're one of my favourite bands and you should really check them out if you're into post-hardcore-punk-jazz-noise-rock.

I do apologize for being shit at describing them but like I said, I'm shit with genres.

The essentials

Shit just got real. You might not get any indie-cred for liking Wilco, but this is something you don't want to miss out on. It also has the greatest song ever made (Jesus, etc.). Get it
Best tracks: Jesus, etc., Heavy Metal Drummer, Reservations, Ashes of American Flags, I'm the Man Who Loves You

Itch from The King Blues

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQeHbMSqRxU&feature=player_embedded
I'm not one for the whole punk thing but this inspires me so much, it always has. When I stop being a lazy twat I'll upload The King Blues album. They're a kickass ska/punk band that are very active in some political shit and they do marches... and stuff (I'm 14, don't expect me to know anything about politics).

The King Blues used to be three homeless guys selling The Big Issue (I don't know if they have that in America, it's basically to help the unprivileged, they buy the magazines for 75p each and can sell it to people on the street for £1.50 (though the damn woman in my town sells it for £3.00, cheeky cow)). Most the songs from their newest album 'Save The World, Get The Girl' are about their past and it's obvious these guys don't care about the money or getting a big record deal, they just want to help the world. For one of their tours a while back they didn't sell 'proper' tickets, they just asked that you buy a Big Issue and use it as a ticket. What lovely guys, eh? Helping the homeless and all that. Anyway I'm rambling on a bit so I'm just going to end it here. Oh also, if you can't be bothered to watch the whole 7 minutes of that video (lazy fucks) then skip to 4:45.

P.S. Itch also plays the ukele in the band, a motherfucking ukele man!
P.P.S. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LsSxRH2QLcg Pretty awesome cover of Dizzee Rascals song Bonkers
"So don’t let anyone tell you you’re not worth the earth,
These streets are your streets, this turf is your turf,
Don’t let anyone tell you that you’ve got to give in,
Cos you can make a difference, you can change everything,
Just let your dreams be your pilot, your imagination your fuel,
Tear up the book and write your own damn rules,
Use all that heart, hope and soul that you’ve got,
And the love and the rage that you feel in your gut,
And realise that the other world that you’re always looking for,
Lies right here in front of us, just outside this door,
And it’s up to you to go out there and paint the canvas,
After all, you were put on the earth to do this,
So shine your light so bright that all can see,
Take pride in being whoever the fuck you want to be,
Throw your fist in the air in solidarity,
And shout 'Viva la punk, just one life, anarchy'"

"I was classic bullying material strictly speaking,
    I was 4ft tall with a 3ft mohican,
I bunked off school and bought some tattoo ink,
Engraved ‘punk 4 life’ on my arm with a safety pin,
I was sleeping in a park and selling The Big Issue,
But this ain’t no sob story so don’t reach for the tissue,
Cos these Spanish punks took me under their wing,
Opened a squat in Clapham Common they let me move in"
    Oh Itch, yousa busta :3

Salutations my negroes, am I hip yet?

British black dude dark-skinned man makes food-themed raps and samples old shows like Fantastic Four and Spiderman. Not much else to say other than it's very interesting. I don't know if our readers are the "everything except rap and country" type, but this is good shit. Also, I don't feel so guilty for being white anymore, yet MF DOOM is obscure enough so that I don't look like a wigger. Thanks MF!

    I Hate Myself - 10 Songs
    Download link

This is a suggestion/request from a reader (apparently people actually pay attention to this blog, who knew?) that I rather enjoyed, so thanks for that bro.
Most the emo we post here tend to have math-rock influences so it's nice to break the habit. I'm trying to think of a band to compare I Hate Myself to but I haven't got one, it's like taking the vocals of Saetia and Midwest Pen Pals (that reminds me, I need to post them) and giving them the guitars of Sunny Day Real Estate. Nice mix of emo and screamo.

feel like a piece of shit

I feel like a piece of shit. This blanket just came out of the dryer, but the fresh smell is giving me a headache. My head feels stuffy, I'm depressed, and my throat feels swollen. I need a nap. But I haven't posted in a while and Valentine's day (bullshit angst day) is around the corner, so I'll delay my sleep for you, the royal reader. 'Cause I'm soooooo nice. Sorry, did you say something? I can't hear you over the sound of me fapping.

So yeah, The Antlers. Apparently Pitchfork feels that by giving albums by aspiring young artists a good review, they're kickstarting their career. It has an opposite effect on me, to be honest. It's always the same story: Pitchfork gives [band]'s debut/"breakthrough" album an 8, [band] gets a shitload of scrobbles for two weeks, then the hipster backlash kicks in. It happened with The XX, Merriweather Post Pavillion, and, yes, Hospice. I guess I'm not hip for know about them before Pitchfork 8.5'd them, but isn't being hip arriving late for old trends? I don't know, and I don't care. All I know is that Hospice is fucking haunting. I had it on in the background while I was reading an article about the Virtual Boy (ONM: a necesarry evil) when the track Bear came on, and I just had to stop. It's that good. While the vocals are pure, the static and the horns
in the background create a contrasting atmosphere. And then the lyrics. Oh Jesus, the lyrics.

"And all the while I'll know we're fucked/And not getting unfucked soon."

"Sylvia, get your head out of the covers/Let me take your temperature,
you can throw the thermometer right back at me/if that's what you want to do, okay?"

Just mouthing them makes me feel uneasy. If you really need music that makes you think, this is it. If you need to cry or release some demons, this is it. Bring a noose.
